About Us:
Welcome to Between a Stock and Hard Place!
I’m Dan, the site’s main contributor. I am currently pursuing an MSc in Investments at the University of Birmingham, following my graduation last year with a First-Class Honours BSc from Aberystwyth University, where I studied Business Economics. My journey into finance, albeit somewhat unconventional, was driven by an interest in both academic theory and real-world applications. This passion was evident throughout my studies, and recognised when I received the G.L. Rees Prize for Best Student in International Economics, awarded by Aberystwyth Business School.
Between a stock and a Hard Place was first conceptualised during my final year in Aberystwyth, as a platform aiming to bridge the gap between complex financial concepts, digestible market updates, and regular investors. My goal through the page is to offer insights into my own experiences and knowledge across various markets, personal finance, and student life. Additionally, I’ll be providing bite-sized market updates on a daily basis, covering all the key areas I’m closely following. These are designed to provide quick and helpful insights for those too busy to trawl the headlines. They also serve as a great starting point for students looking to develop their subject interests (and maybe even sound better in class).
I hope you enjoy, and feel free to get in touch in you have any questions or ideas!
